Zambart is an independent Zambian research organization whose headquarters is at the
University of Zambia’s Ridgeway Campus in Lusaka. Zambart is globally renowned for its
interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis and has contributed to HIV and TB policy
and practice at national and global levels. Zambart’s research portfolio now includes a broader
scope of urgent public health issues. Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range
of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations
research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health
communication and counselling.

health importance Zambia and contribute to improving health policy and practice leading to
better health for all.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for an ambitious, suitably
qualified candidate to fill the following exciting position that has arisen:
Position: Data Scientist/Health Informatics Specialist
Duty Station: Zambart House, Lusaka.
Job Purpose:
To lead and strengthen the Data and Statistics Department and contribute to the development and
implementation of research projects at Zambart.
The Key roles and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Lead a team of ~8-10 data managers and represent the department in management
meetings.
Develop and maintain relational databases to support research studies and conduct
database administration (DBA).
Programming/coding of data collection tools and scripts for data cleaning.
Conduct data cleaning and analysis of data generated by research studies.
Development of M&E tools to feedback study progress and findings to the research team.
Conduct statistical analysis and contribute to the interpretation and publication of
research findings.

Contribute to the development of grant applications and research protocols with a focus
on data management plans.
Contribute to the interpretation and publication of research results ensuring statistical
soundness.
Ensure data and information protection from security breaches and losses.
Support staff in the use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and organizational
standards, policies and procedures
Essential Requirements
Zambian national or in the possession of a Zambian residence permit.
MSc in computer science, data science, health-informatics, biostatistics.
Minimally 5 years of proven experience in the field of data management, design and
deployment of relational databases, development of data collection tools, monitoring and
evaluation, data management.
Proficiency in any one or more of the following software packages categories:
(a) MS SQL Server, MySQL, Transact SQL,
(b) Stata, R, Python, Microsoft .Net framework
Experience working in a (public health) research setting.
Experience with health systems data, patient records
Experience with (standard) statistical analysis methods in bio-medical science
Desirable:
Contributions to publication in scientific journals
Experience with Geographical Information System
